GlobalConnect introduces new solution to reduce unnecessary Wi-Fi power usage at night

Usually, connectivity solutions remain powered around the clock, even when not in use. However, in environments like offices or retail spaces, equipment often lies dormant during the night.

GlobalConnect now offers the option to switch off its customers’ Wi-Fi Access Points in office spaces after working hours.

“Our Wi-Fi Power Control solution can reduce carbon emissions and lower the energy bill for our B2B customers. For instance, with 100 Wi-Fi Access Points in an office, companies can save between 9,000 to 18,000 DKK annually and lower their CO2 emissions by up to 1.2 tons per year,” says Sofia Lisa Dinesen, SVP of Strategy, M&A, and Sustainability at GlobalConnect.

This solution is one of many initiatives coming out of GlobalConnect:

“Our ambition is not just for GlobalConnect to become a more sustainable company, but we also want to support our customers on their journey. Another initiative is our Customer Carbon Calculator, where we provide our customers with emissions data on the solutions and services they acquire from us,” Sofia Lisa Dinesen adds.

The new Wi-Fi solution is a specialized tool that allows customers to shut off wireless access points during the night. In computer networking, a wireless access point, or AP, is a hardware device that allows Wi-Fi devices to connect to a wired or wireless network. As a standalone device, the AP may have a wired connection to a switch or router.

This solution is now available in the Nordic market and Germany for B2B customers with Managed Local Area Network (MLAN) and Cisco Meraki access points.
